Emmanuel Stefanakis, is a Professor and the Head of Geomatics Engineering Department at the University of Calgary, Canada. He has been carrying out research in the area of geographic information science for over 20 years. He combines a strong academic background in both geomatics engineering and computer science, while his research spreads into the areas of spatial data science and specifically geovisualization and cartography, spatio-temporal knowledge discovery and data mining, spatio-temporal indexing and optimization, web mapping and geospatial web, spatial data infrastructures, interoperability of geographic data and semantic web, education in geomatics and geomatics-assisted education. His teaching portfolio includes multiple academic institutions in Europe and Canada, various programs in Engineering and Science, and a variety of teaching modes (classroom-based, online, and distance-learning).
